Muang Kulaypan, a castle under a charm
The Muang Kulaypan, a blending of ancient Javanese house-village design with a traditional Thai southern slow-slung roof, is a hidden gem. Protected by a huge wall toward the street and hidden behind old coconut trees when coming from the beach it is nearby invisible. Thus it reveals its beauty only step by step while ascenting the main stairs to the upper floor. Mirrors chasing away the bad spirits, Lotus, a holy flower, attracting the good one, twin phalluses, protector against the mischievous Goddess of the sea,  all signs how the Muang Kulaypan honores the local tradition and respects the spirits.

Throughout the garden and walkways are numerous well-groomed bonsai trees, like every guest they are carefully treated, giving an idea that this house protects its residents.

One feels a bit like in a fairytale looking at the old wooden doors, inscribed with ancient Thai letterings, equipped with solid knockers, wondering what lies behind. And indeed, like in a magic castle, the true enchantment of the Muang Kulaypan lies behind these doors.

Simple, beautiful fabrics, delicate carved wooden sculptures and traditional furniture, set in contrast to the raw walls are bathed in warm orange light. A minimalist design, yet not cold or conceptual, but rather sensual and cozy.

Sitting on the day bed of your private terrace, overlooking the garden and ocean you feel like having your own gazebo nested into the protective safety of the Muang Kulaypan.

The brightly night life of Chaweng is only a stone´s throw away but once you close the door to your suite you tunnel into a peaceful realm that becalms the senses with its ease of simplicity. A hideaway that builds a bridge to Buddhism, a home for the body and the soul.
